Is Our Town worth your time when it comes to vegan food in a pinch?

Note: since this review was written I have eaten the vegan panini twice and both times have found it flavourful and moist with balsamic vinegar. – Malloreigh

Not so much. The vegan panini has a small slather of sun dried tomato spread and a few leaves of spinach over-crowded by dry bread. After such a harsh criticism I mustn’t leave you with a complete distaste for the establishment itself. The decor, employees & vegan muffins make it one of my favourite spots for studying and inspiration.

I shouldn’t be too harsh about the panini considering there are 4 other vegan friendly restaurants within one block of this coffee shop. I want to proposition the owner of Our Town to either take the panini off the menu completely, so that other patrons such as myself don’t feel like they were completely ripped off. Or, add more vegetables in between the  two pieces of dry bread.

Please don’t get me wrong, I love Our Town! I’ve met so many good friends there and always feel comfortable in the warm atmosphere. When you go make sure to order a coffee, grab a vegan muffin (they have a variety), and flirt with the attractive staff. Oh, make sure to charge your computer before you go because there’s limited outlet space.

Enjoy your time at Our Town. Let me know how it goes.

Note from Malloreigh: They also have vegan soups – though they list them as simply vegetarian and dairy-free, I have asked before and they are vegan. Our Town also offers granola with soy milk and sometimes other vegan baked goods.

it’s unfortunate that you had a bad experience with the vegan panini.. i am the chef at our town, and i make the bread as well, and i can say that there is a weekend chef who doesn’t really have the same standards that i do.. i assure you that i put lots of chunky sundried tomatoes, as well as marinated artichokes, caramelized onions and roasted red peppers, with basamic vinegar drizzle on the focaccia… please try it again!

Knowing that the people who make it actually care about our opinion is priceless – I will try it next time I’m at the cafe and if it passes my high high standards of hunger quenching I’ll be sure to amend this review. Thanks, Tracy!
